Language Restoration Project:
200 Words to a Community

The 200 Word Project has been established to be the foundation for a sustainable language program that would “re-introduce” the Potawatomi Language into the Tribal Communities and promote Cultural Identity. Available to the community are: weekly language classes, language resource center, and language audio/visual materials.

Hello all, my spirit name is “Something New is Coming,” I am Potawatomi and Odawa and live in Athens, Michigan. My clan is of the Eagle clan and I am enrolled with the Huron Potawatomi. I am also known as Mon-ee Zapata.

I currently hold the Language Project Site Coordinator job title. In the eleven years of working for my Tribe, I have been involved with assisting in the development of many Tribal Programs. I truly enjoy working for my own people and relatives, and would like to say “miigwettch” to all of the Tribal Members, without your input....this organization would not exist!
