NHBP’s Brownfields Program currently forms the basis of protecting tribally-owned land. Through the program, the Environmental Department has developed a number of key regulations, assists in the assessment of new land purchases, and develops plans to protect tribal land from hazardous material spills, etc. The program is funded through the EPA’s Brownfields Section 128(a) program and is a key ingredient in protecting the Tribal community’s health and the environment.
